'There is nothing more helpless than the unborn baby, who desperately struggles to survive, drawing away in pain from the saline injection or struggling to breathe when he is prematurely and forcibly expelled into the world.' .. Dr. Philip G. Ney . The Myth of Abuse toward 'Unwanted' Children © 1992 Diane S. Dew in The Standard "Unwanted'"or unexpected children do not suffer more abuse than "wanted" or planned children, contrary to the claims of pro-abortionists, a study indicates. "There is no convincing evidence that liberalized abortion has reduced the rate of child abuse," says Dr. Philip G. Ney; "in fact the evidence indicates the opposite." ("Infant Abortion and Child Abuse: Cause and Effect," in The Psychological Aspects of Abortion, 1979) The argument that "unwanted" children should be aborted is defective, says Ney. "In spite of the fact that abortion on demand has greatly increased ... there has been an increase in child battering ..." (p. 25) In fact, over 90 percent of abused children were planned pregnancies, Ney notes. And statistics indicate that adopted children are abused even more frequently than those who remain with their natural parents. And they were "chosen," definitely "wanted." Ney takes the cause-and-effect position one step further, suggesting that the liberalization of abortion in fact increases the incidence of child abuse. "Permissive abortion," he says, "diminishes the social taboo against aggressing the defenseless. "By devaluing human life, "abortion ... diminish[es] the value of caring for children," he says. "There is nothing more helpless than the unborn baby, who desperately struggles to survive, drawing away in pain from the saline injection or struggling to breathe when he is prematurely and forcibly expelled into the world," says Ney. "More than one person has heard the whimpering of the aborted infant in garbage cans of the pathology lab," he writes. "All those who know of the infant's struggle and don't respond, do so with considerable conscious effort." "... once implemented, abortion changes attitudes toward infants," Ney says, "such that birth rates do not increase, even when the abortion law is tightened." (citing "The International Inventory on Information on Induced Abortion," by E.C. Moore-Caver. The International Institute for the Study of Human Reproduction, Columbia University, 1974) "When we are so careful not to tamper with the delicate balances of plant and animal ecology," Ney says, "one wonders why we are so ignorant of the effects that killing the unborn infants of the human species is having on all humanity." (p. 34) "We have disrupted a very delicate balance, turning parents against their own offspring," he warns. "There may be no turning back." . .
