Margaret Sanger's "The Woman Rebel-No Gods No Masters," Volume I, Third Issue, May 1914

The outspoken nature of this periodical caused it to be suppressed by the Post Office, a fact that Sanger, the famous advocate of birth control, addresses in this issue. In this particular issue, Sanger advocates sex education, birth control as an alternative to abortion ("'Criminal' abortions arise from a perverted sex relationship under the stress of economic necessity, and their greatest frequency is among married women."), a boycott of the Baptist Church, the YMCA, the YWCA ("brothels of the Spirit and morgues of Freedom!"), hunger strikes, explores the relationship between witchcraft and obscenity, and denounces the efforts of the Catholic Church to "enforce SUBJUGATION by TURNING WOMAN INTO A MERE INCUBATOR."
